Description

THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE 1930s/40s JOHN BULL ORIGINAL ENAMEL SIGN.

THE COMPANY WAS FORMED IN 1906 BY THE BURTON BROTHERS INITIALLY DEALING WITH IMPORTED CYCLE TYRES AND TUBING WITH THEIR MAIN TRADE MARK APPEARING IN 1908. IN 1915 THE RUBBER COMPANY STARTED TO MANUFACTURE ITS OWN BICYCLE AND PRAM TYRES AT EVINGTON ROAD LEICESTER AND BY 1928 STARTED TO MASS PRODUCE CAR AND CYCLE TYRES. IT WAS IN 1934 THAT THE LEICESTER RUBBER COMPANY BECAME THE JOHN BULL RUBBER COMPANY LTD. IN 1955 JOHN BULL MERGED WITH METALASTIK WHO IN TURN WAS TAKEN OVER BY DUNLOP.

THIS EXAMPLE IS CONVEXED AND HAS SOME ENAMEL LOSS BUT HAS RETAINED GOOD STRONG VIBRANT COLOUR AND GLOSS. A GOOD HONEST PIECE.
